Frequently asked questions

Apple Health and Apple Watch

My Apple Watch says Stride needs Health access

Stride on Apple Watch needs permission to save workouts before it can record a run. The permission request appears on your iPhone:

  1. Open Stride on your iPhone and allow access on the Health screen that appears.
  2. Try the run on your Watch again.

If you said no earlier, turn it on as described in the next question.

How do I turn Health access on or off?

On iPhone, open the Health app and go to Health › your picture › Privacy › Apps › Stride. Turn on Workouts so Stride can save runs; the other items are optional.

To stop saving iPhone runs to Health, turn off Profile › Save runs to Apple Health in Stride. To have Stride save runs you recorded earlier, use Save earlier runs too in the same place.

Why doesn't a run show heart rate on my other iPhone?

That's by design. Heart rate comes from runs recorded on Apple Watch, and it's kept only on the iPhone that received the run from your Watch. Stride never syncs it through iCloud. The rest of the run syncs normally.

Distance or pace looks wrong

Stride needs precise location to measure runs. Go to Settings › Apps › Stride › Location (when location is off or imprecise, Stride's Run screen also shows an Open Settings button that opens Stride's settings), choose While Using the App and turn on Precise Location. Before you start, wait on the Run screen until the GPS signal is ready, ideally outdoors with a clear view of the sky.

iCloud

My runs aren't syncing between my iPhones

Stride syncs through your private iCloud account. Check the iCloud sync row in Profile, then:

  • Make sure every iPhone is signed in to the same Apple Account in Settings.
  • In Settings › your name › iCloud, find Stride among the apps that use iCloud (tap See All if needed) and make sure it's on.
  • Check you're online and that your iCloud storage isn't full.
  • Open Stride on both iPhones and give it a few minutes. Low Power Mode can delay syncing.

Runs recorded on Apple Watch go to its paired iPhone first, then to your other iPhones through iCloud.

Stride Pro

What is Stride Pro?

Stride Pro is an optional subscription that unlocks extra training features, listed on the Stride Pro screen in the app. It comes as a monthly or a yearly plan, with prices in your local currency shown before you subscribe. When a plan includes a free trial, the Stride Pro screen shows how long it lasts and the date you'd first be charged.

Stride Pro renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the free trial or the current period. Payment is charged to your Apple Account.

How do I manage or cancel Stride Pro?

Go to Settings › your name › Subscriptions and choose Stride, or tap Manage next to Stride Pro in Stride's Profile. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, or before a free trial ends, to avoid the next charge. You keep Pro until the end of the trial or the period you paid for.

Apple handles all billing. For a refund, request one from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I restore my purchase?

In Stride, go to Profile and tap Restore purchases (it's also on the Stride Pro screen). Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you subscribed with.

Does Stride Pro work with Family Sharing?

The person who subscribed can check in Settings › your name › Subscriptions: choose Stride, and if Share with Family appears there, turn it on to share Stride Pro with their Family Sharing group. Family members then open Stride and, if needed, tap Restore purchases in Profile. Profile shows "Shared by your family". Only the person who subscribed can manage or cancel it.

Friends

How does sharing with friends work?

Friends is off until you turn it on in Progress › Friends › Share my running. You need to be signed in to iCloud. You then get a friend code to send to people you choose. Anyone with your code sees your name, this week's and this month's distance and number of runs, this week's total time, your streak, your last run and your cheers. Never your route, location, heart rate, calories or notes.

  • Stop sharing: turn off Share my running. Your card is deleted.
  • Start over: Change my code. Everyone with the old code stops seeing you once Stride refreshes on their iPhone.
  • Remove or block someone: touch and hold them on the Friends board.

Deleting Stride, signing out of iCloud or switching to another iCloud account doesn't delete your card. Turn sharing off first. If it's too late, sign in again with the same Apple Account (reinstalling Stride if needed; your sharing setting and code come back) and turn off Share my running, or email us your friend code and we'll delete the card. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what's shared.

How do I report a runner's name?

On the Friends board, touch and hold the runner and choose Report Name. For a friend who isn't sharing right now, use the … button next to their code. Stride opens your email app with a message to us that includes their name and code. Add a reason and send it. We review every report and remove cards that break the Friends rules. You can also block the runner right away.

What are the Friends rules?

The name on your card is seen by everyone who has your code. It must not:

  • be offensive, hateful, harassing, sexual or violent;
  • pretend to be someone else;
  • include contact details, links or ads.

We review reported names as quickly as we can, delete cards that break these rules, and may delete later cards from the same runner. Anyone can block a runner at any time from the Friends board.

Your data

How do I delete my data?
  • One run: swipe left on it in Activities, or open it and choose Edit › Delete run. If Stride saved it to Apple Health from your iPhone, it's removed from Health too.
  • All runs, shoes and challenges: Profile › Delete all runs. This reaches your other iPhones through iCloud. Runs already in Apple Health stay there; delete them in the Health app.
  • Custom workouts: swipe to delete them in Workouts.
  • Friends card: turn off Share my running.
  • Data in iCloud: Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage, then choose Stride, if it's listed.
  • Your name and friends: these sync through iCloud and come back if you reinstall Stride. Clear the Name friends see and remove your friends in Stride before you delete the app.
  • Everything else on the device: delete the app.
